Where ADC Releases Go

A Rutherford County Adult Detention Center release can have several destinations. A pretrial detainee may return to the community after posting bond, receiving a recognizance decision, or entering the county's conditional release program. A court may also dismiss a charge or issue another release order. For a sentenced person, the event may be time served, sentence expiration, movement to local probation, or transfer to the Correctional Work Center. Each event ends one form of custody, but not all end the case or all legal control.

Transfers require extra care. A person may leave ADC for the Tennessee Department of Correction, another county jail, federal authorities, or ICE. In that setting, the ADC record should identify the receiving agency or destination. The Sheriff timestamp shows when county-jail custody ended. It does not prove the person entered the community. Pair that movement record with the original or certified court disposition for the legal reason. Confirm an ADC Release

The Sheriff's official navigation does not publish a name-searchable roster, recent-release list, or release archive. Current inmate-service links are not custody-status searches. A missing name on an unofficial page is therefore only a lead. It can reflect a transfer, spelling variation, processing delay, sealed matter, or release. Confirmation needs an affirmative date, release type, or destination from the agency that held the person.

1. Identify the full name, date of birth, booking date, and booking or case number when known.
2. Call the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office at 615-898-7777 and ask which records channel holds the actual ADC movement.
3. Use the current Warrants and Records request form. Select Arrest or Other and ask for admission and release times, type, and destination.
4. Check General Sessions Criminal for a misdemeanor matter or Circuit Criminal for a felony-level disposition. Web dockets are only informational.
5. If the record says transfer, continue with CWC, TDOC FOIL, BOP, ICE, or the other named custodian.

VINELink may report a custody change and can be useful for a prompt alert. It is not a certified release record and may not keep an older booking searchable. For state felony custody, TDOC FOIL can show incarcerated, probation, parole, or inactive status. A county bond-out may never appear there. Use each system only for the custody it controls.

Note: A person who leaves ADC for another custodian is transferred, not confirmed as released into the Rutherford County community.

ADC Release Records Contact

Warrants and Records is the starting point for an ADC release or transfer record. Rutherford's current form asks for the report number, date and time, officer if known, a description, and identifying details. It directs completed requests to recordsrequest@rcsotn.org with valid identification. The form says the office will reply within seven business days. That is a response standard, not a promise that every record will be produced within seven days. Active cases under investigation are excluded under the form's terms.

Describe one person and booking as narrowly as possible. Ask for the booking or arrest record, admission and actual release date and time, release type or reason, releasing facility, destination or receiving agency, booking number, linked case numbers, and booking photograph if needed. Request electronic delivery and a cost estimate. The form does not publish a booking-photo price, guarantee a full field set, or state a retention period.

ADC Custody and Releases

The Rutherford County Adult Detention Center is a county jail operated by the Sheriff's Office. Its official page describes a 956-bed facility for male and female pretrial detainees and sentenced prisoners, with a maximum local sentence of eight years. Those two populations create different release routes. A person awaiting trial can leave the jail while charges remain open. Someone serving a sentence may complete the term, move to supervision, or transfer for another sentence.

TDOC's FY2025 statistical table treats Rutherford County Jail and Rutherford County WH as separate rows. The table reports 585 and 208 in its cited population categories, including state-backup categories. They are not annual release totals, average daily populations, or current capacity figures. Their useful point is structural: ADC and the work center are distinct facilities, and a state-backup prisoner may leave ADC by transfer toward TDOC instead of going home.

Two Rutherford Release Tracks

Rutherford County does not have one generic adult jail path. ADC is the Sheriff's mixed pretrial and sentenced facility. The Rutherford County Correctional Work Center is a separate county operation with sentenced, program, community-work, and work-release functions. A person can move between those tracks without gaining final freedom. Work release, for example, permits approved activity outside while lawful confinement continues.

The distinction changes whom to call. Sheriff records holds the ADC movement, while CWC should be contacted about its own discharge or transfer. The sentencing court explains the judgment for either facility. FOIL becomes relevant only when TDOC felony custody or state supervision applies. Identifying the last physical facility before making a request prevents a custodian from being asked to interpret another office's record.

The TDOC statistical labels reinforce this split. Rutherford County Jail and Rutherford County WH appear as separate rows, and both include state-backup categories. Those categories show that local confinement can connect to a later state transfer. They do not show who was released, when a person left, or whether that movement reached the community. The ADC release type and destination must still come from the Sheriff record for the named booking.

ADC Property After Release

The ADC publishes a concrete post-release rule for commissary balances and pending items. Remaining commissary funds are converted to a check or debit card. The item is held in the Visitation Lobby for one year, after which it is transferred to Tennessee's unclaimed funds process. This pickup rule concerns property, not proof that a release occurred.

Pending commissary items must be collected within five business days or the facility says they are donated. Questions about the account go to 1-855-589-7687. The official source does not state a routine release time, exit door, weekend procedure, family waiting area, or exact transit stop. Call ADC before arranging pickup. A property deadline should never be used to infer the time or legal type of a person's release.

Note: Commissary pickup rules apply after ADC processing but do not identify the court result, release type, or receiving authority.

ADC Release Under a Detainer

An ICE detainer can produce two custody events. First, Rutherford County ends its criminal custody and records a transfer or release destination. Then ICE may begin immigration custody. The Sheriff record and ICE Online Detainee Locator should be read separately. Research did not establish a current countywide Rutherford ICE contract or 287(g) arrangement, so no broader claim should be made from one individual handoff.

The ICE locator searches a nine-digit A-number with country of birth, or exact name with birth details. ICE says its system covers current detainees and people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. An older release or missing result is not proof of community release. Likewise, a federal pretrial detainee may be held for the U.S. Marshals Service and never appear as a sentenced BOP prisoner. Court records and the named holding facility then become the stronger path.

ADC Release and Court Records

A facility timestamp answers when ADC custody changed. The court file answers why. General Sessions Criminal handles misdemeanor matters, while Circuit Criminal is the main felony-trial path. The Circuit Court Clerk processes final dispositions. A docket can contain charges, bond or pretrial conditions, a dismissal, judgment, sentence, jail credit, probation, revocation, and final disposition. Those fields do not necessarily reveal the gate-processing minute.

Rutherford warns that online dockets are informational, changes appear on the original, and sealed cases do not display. When formal proof is needed, request the original or certified disposition from the right clerk and pair it with the ADC release record. A release order may precede administrative processing. Conversely, a transfer can occur while the criminal case remains open. Keeping these records separate avoids treating court outcome and physical movement as the same event.
