Rutherford Parole and Probation

Parole and probation can both place a person in the community under rules, but they begin in different ways. The Tennessee Board of Parole may grant parole before a state sentence expires. TDOC then administers that supervision. Probation is ordered by a court, sometimes instead of confinement and sometimes after a split sentence that starts with jail time. Rutherford County Probation & Recovery Services handles local court probation. TDOC handles state felony probation and parole. Calling the wrong Murfreesboro office can delay a needed report or answer.

The key distinction is the legal source of control. A parole grant does not erase the unserved sentence, and a person remains subject to TDOC supervision until discharge, expiration, or another lawful end. County probation follows the sentencing court's order. Pretrial Services, by contrast, manages voluntary, nonmonetary conditional release while charges remain pending. It is physical release from jail, not probation, parole, dismissal, or final discharge.

Verify Rutherford Post-Release Supervision

Start with the sentence, not a live jail roster. A released ADC detainee may have county probation, state supervision, pretrial conditions, or no supervision at all. TDOC's Felony Offender Information search, known as FOIL, includes current and former felony offenders in TDOC custody or under supervision. It is not a list of every person released from an ADC booking. County bond-outs and many local cases may never create a FOIL record.

Use identifiers carefully. FOIL accepts a name, TDOC or TOMIS ID, or State ID. A name search can include aliases and race as a narrowing field. Match the person before reading Supervision Status, Assigned Location, sentence data, and release details. A parole or probation label means community supervision continues. Inactive can be a discharge clue, but it must be read with the sentence and release fields.

1. Obtain the case number, sentence, and last custody system from the court or release record.
2. Search FOIL when a Tennessee felony sentence or TDOC supervision is possible. Compare identifiers, not name alone.
3. Read Supervision Status and Assigned Location. Those fields route a state case to the proper TDOC office.
4. For a local court case, call county probation rather than TDOC. Ask which case manager or reporting route applies.
5. Confirm a parole decision with FOIL's Parole Hearing Result or the Board. A hearing date alone is not a grant.
6. Use the court and responsible agency to confirm any alleged violation, warrant, discharge, or change in status.

Rutherford Supervision Office Routes

Two Murfreesboro offices serve different cases. Rutherford County Probation & Recovery Services handles people placed on probation through local courts. The TDOC Field Office Directory routes state community supervision, and its Murfreesboro office serves Rutherford, Bedford, and Cannon counties. Staff may limit case details, so use FOIL and the sentence first. Then call the office shown by the record for current reporting instructions.

Pretrial Services is a third route at 1 Public Square, Suite 104, with phone 615-898-6975. It serves approved nonviolent misdemeanor defendants on conditional release while a case remains open. The program has no general program fee, though testing or monitoring may have a cost. Its office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Rutherford Probation Assignment

Rutherford County gives a direct instruction for someone who has just left incarceration or does not know the assigned county case manager: call 615-849-5720 and press 0. Reporting appointments are set for each person. Public office hours do not replace the date or time in an individual instruction, judgment, or release packet.

The direct extension route matters because a county probationer should not be sent to TDOC merely because both agencies operate in Murfreesboro.

Rutherford Parole Hearing Records

A scheduled hearing is not a release order. The Tennessee Board of Parole Hearings Division states that schedules update each Monday, or Tuesday after a Monday holiday. A current schedule can be requested at BD.HearingSchedules@tn.gov. Older schedules may remain online, so the date on the document must be checked before relying on it.

Hearing officers make nonbinding recommendations. Board members can adopt, change, or reject them. Current proceeding types include initial or grant review, preliminary and final revocation, rescission, time setting, custodial proceedings, and appeals. FOIL's Parole Hearing Result is the public individual-result field found in the research. No separate authoritative statewide public decisions search was identified.

After a grant, Board Operations completes the final-decision process and its Certificate Unit prepares the parole certificate. Release can still depend on an approved plan and resolution of detainers. The certificate sets rules and special conditions, but actual departure from custody should be confirmed through TDOC release information.

Rutherford Supervision Violations

Supervision conditions come from the judgment, parole certificate, and responsible agency. They can require reporting, court appearances, approved residence or travel, and compliance with special terms. A violation allegation can lead to a warrant, preliminary review, revocation hearing, added restrictions, or a return to custody. The result depends on the case and the order entered.

An absconder label or warrant allegation is not a new conviction. Confirm an active warrant or court action with the responsible office and court. VINELink can report some custody changes, but it is a notification system rather than a certified supervision record. The TBI Sex Offender Registry applies only to people subject to that registry and can include incarcerated people, so it is not a broad Rutherford County post-release supervision search.

Final revocation proceedings may revoke or reinstate parole. That result should be read with the Board decision, FOIL status, and any new custody record. A transfer or hold can also explain why a person leaves one facility without returning to the community.

Rutherford Re-Entry After Release

Rutherford County's Re-Entry Program began at both ADC and CWC in 2019. Full programming is designed for people serving at least three months, while resource connection is open to all affected by incarceration. It is a navigation office, not a supervision-status database and not the agency that changes parole or probation terms.

The program's ADC and CWC roots make it a local connection point, while legal reporting questions remain with county probation, TDOC, or Pretrial Services.

Rutherford Property After Release

The Sheriff's Adult Detention page publishes a practical post-release rule that is separate from supervision. Remaining commissary funds are converted to a check or debit card and held in the Visitation Lobby for one year. After that period, the funds move to Tennessee unclaimed property. Pending commissary goods must be collected within five business days or they are donated.

Commissary concerns go to 1-855-589-7687. Retrieving money or goods does not prove probation assignment, parole status, or discharge. It is a facility property process. Keep the ADC release record and supervision instructions as separate documents because each answers a different question.

Note: An ADC property deadline can run while a court or TDOC supervision term continues, so handle each process through its own office.

Rutherford Supervision Discharge Records

Supervision ends through a formal legal or agency event, not merely because a person stops appearing in a search. For parole, sentence expiration, a valid discharge, or a Board action can end control. For probation, the court order and case disposition show completion, extension, revocation, or another result. FOIL may later show inactive status for a former TDOC case, but older detail can require a TDOC archived-record request.

Pair the status with the record holder. The court is the source for a county probation judgment and final disposition. TDOC is the source for state supervision status and custody history. The Board is the source for parole decisions. A release record from ADC proves physical movement, not final discharge from supervision. Tennessee public-record access is subject to exceptions for sealed, expunged, juvenile, active investigative, security-sensitive, and personal information. A lawful restriction can make an old record unavailable. That is not evidence of a new release or a completed term.
